SAN PEDRO, Ambergris Caye, Belize - In an effort to put leaders in documentary filmmaking together with media buyers and producers, business leaders of the island community of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye are organizing a film & media festival with this specific focus in mind. Ambergris Caye, home to the Belize Mediafest sits on the Belize Barrier Reef System, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is the perfect backdrop for such an event.
Submissions for review should be submitted to the San Pedro Business Association over the course of the next year. Preliminary contact can be sent to info@belizemediafest.com. A final deadline for submissions will be announced at a later date. In addition to media submissions, panel speakers and keynote speakers are also being sought.
Belize Mediafest, to be held in October 2008, will include several evenings of films, music, visual arts and cultural celebration, and will culminate with a community block party to be held in downtown San Pedro.

An important part of Belize's history is the Mayan legacy of outstanding palaces and temples. The Mayan occupation began as early as 1500 B.C. and some Maya cultural centres continued to be occupied until the arrival of the Spanish in the 15th century. Belize's population was thought to be over 1 million people when Belize was the heart of the Mayan civilization. A variety of Maya Ruin sites can be found in Belize, including Althun Ha, Blue Creek Cave, Cahal Pech, Caracol, Cerros, Chan Chich, El Pilar, Lamanai, Lubaantum, Marco Gonzalez and Xunantunich among others.
Belize is on the Caribbean coast, nestled between Mexico and Guatemala and offers an intriguing mix of tropical forests rich with wildlife, majestic mountains, mysterious Maya temples, and diving and fishing experiences beyond comparison. In a single day, one can go from tropical forest to the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere. Come enjoy the finest in Belizean hospitality and help us celebrate!
